I was reading a 6th borough thread for NYC, and this got me thinking: Would anyone consider Nassau remerging with Queens and becoming a part of the City? I thought of placing this in the Long Island Forum, but I already anticipated the answers I would get...I'm not certain if NYC posters would be care one way or the other. I know they were once one county, and as far as I'm concerned, western parts of Nassau aren't that different from Queens. If this were to happen:

-NYC would surpass Mexico City as the largest city in North America, at approx. 9.5 million
-There would be more incentive/pressure to make Long Island/or in this case, the other part of the City, more accessible to the mainland (i.e. Kings Point to City Island or Throg's Neck, or elsewhere across the Sound)
-Suffolk may split into two counties

Would you want it to happen? Do you think it will ever happen?

I think Yonkers is a better candidate for a sixth borough.

I suppose that would make sense, since Yonkers is already more urbanized. Neighboring Bronx was a part of Westchester, after all. If that's the case, we might as well include Mount Vernon. I'm certain Westchester would gladly oblige.

I wish NYC was it's own independent district with LI and Westchester being part of it.

We dont need LI or Westchester. District of New York would be cool, but upstate would have none of it. We subsidize a lot for them.

It would be weird for LI to be disconnected from NY state though, but I'd like to have LI and Westchester it adds more natural beauty.

Why because it it would be physically cut off? Look at Michigan. Upper and Lower Peninsula.

I'm sure those who pay those property taxes would say yes.

I see no point in adding boroughs to the City.

Getting larger than Mexico City seems damning if anything.
