Renting w/ lease
guys
i have a small room in my house with its own bath that I'd like to rent out. I rather do this off the books to avoid all the legal/tax hassles.
Can anybody comment on their experiences finding a good tenant and renting without any formal leases? I plan to do this on a month to month basis and either party can verbally terminate with 30 days notice. Will I have to face same court eviction hassles with a non-paying tenant or can I get rid of a tenant much faster given they only have a verbal agreement?
Thx

just to answer your question about the not having a lease part.
there is a lease , its implied by new york state even if you dont issue one and you might not like the terms.
throw in one other thing your not thinking of.
if the tenant pays you cash and then stiffs you on the rent how will you ever prove in court what the rent amount was supposed to be

you'r asking for trouble here.
just so you know, housing laws in NYC are very protective of tenants, so be very careful on how and to whom you rent that room.

i live in a single family - is it even legal renting a room to someone? Should I draft up a lease myself taking my old landlord's lease?
