No thats Marble Hill, Marble Hill area is alot better than Burnside Avenue in the heart of University Heights. Up that long hill is Kingsbridge Avenue.

Super Mario can tell you more on the area since I think he lives in the area. I've been there a few times around CUNY BCC (Bronx Community College) and the immediate area looks ok. Got some colonial style? houses along University Ave/ MLK Blvd mixed in with some apartments. to the South of BCC you got some nice houses there aswell, area seems for the most part quiet, and up along the west you got Sedgwick ave which goes up all the way to Van Cortlandt village I beleive (some nice houses just West of the resovoir) Went to BCC over the summer because I got a part time job there holding off for someone and so far can tell you that the place has some beautiful Dominican women. Also East of BCC got some Apartments and duplex houses. Dunno what that area is like but it seems ok. Travelling along burnside down to the station its busy but never once felt uneasy, then again the latest I have been there was 10pm. Others will chime in

Burnside ave is one terrible. Just go see all the murals painted on the side of buildings, west of University ave (Loring Pl, Andrews etc) and east of University ave (Harrison, Grand). The security camera is installed on University ave, and if I'm not mistakes, Loring Pl and Burnside ave is the intersection that has recieved the police skywatch the most (the tower where the police are high up and can observe anything going on below for 24 hours). Tough place, reminds me of west 183rd street.

BXguyanese, Burnside ave is not the heart of University Heights. It's actually the border between both Morris and University Heights.

BCC area to the southwest is fine, but venture into any building blocks and you get a very different feel.

Go along the avenue and you see murals, vacant lots, and drug dealers. It really is one of the worst areas in the Bronx.

Going up the hill east of The Deegan is Kingsbridge Heights. Marble Hill is west of The Deegan.

I grew up just off Burnside Avenue and lived there until i was nearly eighteen. Back in the day the area was a war zone. A lot of people got killed in that neighborhood, especially during the crack era. The area was well known as a location where lots of narcotics were bought and sold.

I saw violence growing up there that you wouldn't believe.

Today, it's like candyland compared to what it used to be, but be advised: I would not say it's the safest area in the city, or even the Bronx. It's not 'watch your back at all times' treacherous but there are a few rough spots. On the whole it's tough - but not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be.

A few things about the area haven't changed-1) there's almost nothing to do there except get takeout ( mostly Dominican , Chinese and African ) food and then go home and eat it. 2) The building blocks off Burnside are the epitome of ghetto. 3) The women there are very beautiful but incredibly snotty. 4) The part of Burnside from University down to the Major Deegan is troubled.

176 and Grand is pretty much exactly like it used to be. There are some new buildings close to University.
