Such a cultural victim of history. One great city developed on the other side of one river. A pretty good city developed on the other side of another river. NJ formed of the area between the two rivers. Never had its own big city to define its reputation.

repeating a very limited experience over and over doesn't make it more representative

since you don't seem to get sarcasm, i will spell it out

judging all of NJ from the turnpike would be like judging all of MA from the big dig. anyone who knows western MA will think such a generalization sounds retarded. likewise for anyone who knows the rest of nj

or "i really hate driving on the cross bronx expy so NYC must have nothing to offer"

sounds retarded

That has been one of those things that have fascinated me since I have moved to Jersey is the lack of its own big city, it seems to function as the suburb of two cities in different states.

Talk funny ... compared to New Yorkers?? Meaning that NJ natives pronounce their R's like the rest of Americans, unlike NYC natives?

You seem to be the all knowing Jersey City transplant, have you ever actually heard a Jersey City native speak? R's dont exist in their vocabulary fella.

Both NY and NJ have some funny and ridiculous accents that always catch me off guard and make me laugh.

A lady I know is from Greenville Jersey City. She has the thickest "New York" accent I ever heard.
