Pre-pay Discount (apartment, landlord, cost of)

My wife and I are looking into moving to Manhattan (and have been directed by friends to the UWS, more specifically). We have the means to potentially prepay an entire year of rent, if not longer, depending on the cost of the apartment we settle on.

My question is this: are landlord's/management co.s willing to offer discounts if I can step in and write a check today for the whole year? If so, what level of discount is typical?

Possibly none, unless the landlord wants to take your money and run.

A mom and pop landlord may entertain an offer. A larger landlord, especially in the summer market, will most likely not.
