Hi,

I'm a long-time Manhattan resident, very close to purchasing a co-op at the Shelton, a mixed-income new development on Lafayette just east of Marcus Garvey in Bed-Stuy.

I've been reading the threads and also looked at the crime map Brooklyn, NY Crime Map - Showing Crimes in Brooklyn - Crime Statistics, Alerts and Reports - Crime Stops Here

Scared myself a bit. Just statistically, seems like there are a lot of guns on the street.

It's half a mile to the subway in either direction, and there are buses. Not many amenities in the area; would have to go east to Clinton Hill or south to the Fulton strip.

Looking for perspective from Bed-Stuy residents, and also to connect with anyone else who is looking seriously to purchase at the Shelton.

thanks!

Kind of no mans land: far from the subway and far from any decent amenities. In terms of guns/crime; there are other parts of the neighborhood that have less gun violence but if you are not involved with the riffraff, then you shouldn't fear being shot (if that's your concern). The real question is, have you been to that area of Bed-Stuy at different times of the day/night? What is YOUR comfort level with the area?
