Where is the "strip", you know, stores and shopping in East New York?
Last time I was in ENY was way back in the day and only to change trains. In the early 70's in lived on 14th in the EV, I had a brother from another mother that lived in Far Rock (B19 & New haven). We would hang on the beach and party, never less than 10 or 12 of us. Sorry I'm off track again.
I'd really like to know more about ENY 2012 as well.
Also, is Cypress Hills considered a sub section of ENY, or is it too far north? Isn't Cypress Hills predominantly Hispanic?
You will be greeted by a bunch of shirtless (it's summer) teens and grown men with pants below their hips, twisting their faces as they examine you and finally raising their fist and cracking their knuckles, this is when they begin their 'beat down' march towards you!!
Can you people stop exaggerating? It's not instant death!
According to legend one person did got out of that area alive after venturing into the purple zone,
but the guy was never the same afterward though. He constantly mumbling to himself about dark
people with haunted fears in his eyes. He also never let anyone shut off the light at all times in his
house after returning.
The other part of East NY is not as bad, except there is always an essence of death and chaos
radiating from the air and streets of the neighborhood. If you must vist the neighborhood, bring
a Bible or crucifix might help, and have holy water ready after you are home for deep cleansing.
Probably Nothing. I have two friends that work in ENY in a domestic violence center- they come and go all the time with no incidents. My friends are both black but some of their co workers are not and nothing has ever happened to them either. I've been to ENY before (twice actually) to pick up my friend at work. Was parked outside sitting in my car (convertible German luxury car to boot) for a while waiting and nothing happened. There was a white photographer that was going around ENY and some of the other high crime neighborhoods in NYC "just to see what they were like" and take pics (yeah, wtf?). Nothing happened to him even with carrying an expensive camera. Matter of fact, people were more than happy to let him take their picture. What was funny about the photographer is that the cops actually stopped him a few times because they thought he was there to buy drugs!
The point here is that if you go into any of these high crime areas the most likely thing is that people might look at you, wonder what you are doing there, then carry on with their business. People forget that there are plenty of schools, hospitals, and other business in these areas where lot's of different "races" might work. The high crime that goes on is between those that are already involved in crime in the first place. That being said, there is more gun violence in these areas and while you wouldn't be the intended target, it would be unsettling to hear gun shots a few blocks away from you.

Yes Cypress Hills has a lot of Hispanics. Depending on who you talk to I've heard people refer to it as a section of ENY and others say that no it's a separate neighborhood.
Thanks SeventhFloor and NooYowkur81, I really appreciate the info!
