I currently live in central Harlem which I like a lot. But I got a letter to interview for a low income housing unit on 102 street between 1st and 2nd.

I walked the area and it seemed "ok" but not as convenient as where I am now. Besides, there were several housing projects in the area. However, I'm thinking once the 2nd avenue train is done there will be major gentrification. I also noticed a few luxury apartments on the

Anyone have any experiences living in that area?

Several housing projects = quality of life issues

It will take several years for major gentrification to occur.

Agreed, don't move. 2nd Ave Subway won't be done until 2018 or later. 100s east side is the boonies vs central harlem.

When looking for a place to live, don't count on such things as gentrification; that is definitely not a guarantee and a bad reason to choose to live in a place where you're not sure if you feel safe.
