Hey,but what if the guy can't make it due to some sudden problem then what would be the best thing to answer them so that they let me go tour chicago before heading to purdue? Need to have a backup.
Incase if he doesn't turn up then I would take up a train(if available) or a bus.Whatever is cheap.

Your job is not to get direct permission from some immigration agent to tour Chicago. Tell the agent you have a Purdue friend picking you up whether he shows up or not. Once you are past him and have your bags, you can do whatever you want.

Chicago is only 19hrs by Train away from NYC , so once your there take Amtrak Lake shore limited to NY for a week visit...

Naah,can't go to NYC once I depart from Newark.Hence,I badly hoped if they would allow me to tour NYC before arriving college

I said you can do it once your settled in Chicago ,Just go to Chicago Union Station , book a train advance and take it on your first College break.

He would take the Cardinal since it goes through Purdue. 24 hrs to NYC without having to go to Chicago first.

Any idea how long does it take to reach the Sears tower from O'Hare?
I checked out google map and it says more than an hour if on a public transport :\

You're on the wrong forum, but the train ride is about 45 minutes. Add in walking and waiting, hour is reasonable.
