Hi, I've been reading a lot that people prefer Astoria to Manhattan b/c of cheaper rents... but when I look online for apartments they seem pretty expensive in astoria, too... so I was wondering, can anyone who actually lives in astoria (or knows someone who lives there) tell me how much a studio/1bedroom typically goes for? I'm not looking for anything luxurious, just a decent place. Thanks a lot!
I moved out of astoria a few years back and still have friends there. Rents currently are around 850-1100 for a studio and 1100-1300 for a 1 bedroom. Most will fall in these ranges expect for maybe the top and bottom 10% of the market. The same average quality apartments across the river on the upper east side, east of lexington ave, will run between 50-100% more.
Astoria started to become "trendy" a long time ago, so though it is still cheaper than Manhattan, it is still to pricey for many folks just starting out.
