I certainly feel less free in NYC, not just because of Mike, but governance here overall.

The professors who authored the study believe that this freedom as they define it makes a lot of difference to the happiness and well-being of the governed.

NJ ranks 49th. The apple doesn't fall to far from the tree.

Boy you don't give up do you. Did you even read this? Do you even realize what they consider "free"? "

"In our view, individuals should be allowed to dispose of their lives, liberties, and properties as they see fit, as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others." I don't think anybody disagrees with that statement, however if you choose to eat yourself into a heartattack at the age of 40 and then taxpayers have to foot the bill because you don't have insurance or can't afford it, YOU ARE NOT FREE AND YOU ARE INFRINGING ON OUR FREEDOM TO SAY YOU DID IT TO YOURSELF TOO BAD. If you like to smoke yourself into lung cancer at the age of 50 but don't have insurance or can't afford it, YOU ARE NOT FREE AND YOU ARE INFRINGING ON OUR FREEDOM TO SAY YOU DID IT TO YOURSELF TOO BAD.

Don't get it yet? You want to buy a house but don't have the downpayment so you use a government 1st time homebuyer program for only 5% down, YOU ARE NOT FREE BECAUSE TAXPAYERS ARE FOOTING THE BILL/RISK BECAUSE YOU DONT HAVE THE MONEY. You want to go to college but can't afford it, so you apply for federal loans, YOU ARE NOT FREE BECAUSE TAXPAYERS ARE SUBSIDIZING YOU TO GO TO SCHOOL.

And here is your perfect world: You enjoy flying to the FREE state of New Hampshire, but your plane crashes because there are little/no regulations and you lose both your legs and your whole family dies, THAT IS FREEDOM FROM THOSE PESKY GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS. You spent your entire life investing and saving, however stockbrokers were faking transactions and you lose your entire lifesavings in a Madoff type pyramid scheme with no recourse, THAT IS FREEDOM FROM THOSE DARN GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS. You get sick with pneumonia and go to the hospital, but you don't have insurance and don't have the money to pay for it, so they escort you out to your car with no treatment and tell you to have a nice day, THAT IS FREEDOM FROM GOVERNMENT (TAXPAYER) HEALTHCARE.

It sounds to me like you really want to live in India, where you are free to be exploited, cheated, and left to die in the streets. They have all the freedom you could ever want. GO.

I just recently figured out a correlation. People who are from sheltered enviorenments who have Helicopter Parents, where parents shuttle kids in minivans and 4x4 SUVs, where kids get trophies if they loose. All these kids who come from Sheltered enviorenments and come from very freely states end up moving to the nanny state of NY and even more worse when moving to the Walled Garden of NYC.

The analysis refers to the state's spending, taxes, income, welfare, transit, hospitals, and a slew of other factors but nothing regarding NYC. His soda law is limited only to the city and the insane tobacco tax is limited to the city. You should include Cuomo in your thanks, as he governs the state.
