What "neighborhood" is this considered? (brooklyn question)
I am looking at apartments in brooklyn. I am wondering what neighborhood brooklyn college is located in. Also I would assume its a safe area being around the college... but obviously I dont know.
Any answers, comments appreciated.

sorry didnt answer your other question. the area south of bklyn college on bedford ave is safe. the area between flatbush avenue and brooklyn college (glenwood road) can be a little isolated at times. i was walking around there 1 time in broad daylight (this was when i was in high school) and a guy looked like in his 40's tried to rob me for my chain, but i fought him off. but thats an isolated incident. i would say the neighborhood overall around there has an average crime rate. not bad but not that great either.

That area would be considered Midwood. Pretty decent area, not one of the best neighborhoods in Brooklyn but FAR from the worst. Very convenient place with the subway, and buses going up Flatbush Ave. and the area has a lot of places to shop. Racially it is Jewish/West Indian mix.

The other apt I am looking at is 3 blocks from the 95th and 4th stop on the R train, toward the water... I think 97th and 4th.
Is this considered part of bay ridge?
How would the area compare to the other apartment, in midwood one block north of brooklyn college, on 26th I beleive.

Brooklyn College is right on the edge of ghetto Brooklyn, at the border of Midwood and Flatbush. Flatbush and Midwood aren't so great, in my opinion. Flatbush can be quite dangerous, even around the BC campus. Midwood is as suburban as Brooklyn gets, and is basically an enclave of Orthodox Jews, so there's not much going on at night.
Public transportation to the area is decent, but the subway lines that serve that area of Flatbush are kind sketchy and can be downright treacherous at night.
Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, on the other hand (where I grew up) is great. It's got a pretty active nightlife and is convenient to public transportation out to the city. It's also close to the Verazzano-Narrows Bridge so trips west of New York are quick. The crowd's changing in Bay Ridge. Growing up and probably into the last 5 or so years, Bay Ridge restaurants and bars were filled with blue collar, working class types. In the last several years more priced-outta Manhattan people are coming to Bay Ridge and the set is usually more white collar than blue, more grad school than high school, etc.
I'd choose Bay Ridge if I were you.
