My dad loves the chicken at this one Popeye's in Chinatown I think is where it is.

there was a place called Pudgie's in my area briefly about 8 years ago that featured skinless fried chicken. it was pretty good.

Better find a southerner who'll fry chicken for you at home. Good luck. Good southern food is hard to find in NYC.

actually, popeyes is great fried chicken. a few great locations are 116th & lenox, 14th & 6th, 40th & 8th. those 3 have consistently great chicken. amy ruths fried chicken is great too, that's also located on 116th and lenox.

The vast majority of the joints are small businesses run by nice people. They want your business.
You can ask them to ease off on the spiciness.

As for southern style, as others have said, it's hard to find in NYC.
Popeyes may actually be your best bet. It's good quality for a chain.

Try Amy Ruth's on W 116th near Lenox. Moist, crispy, tasty, Southern. Also Spoonbread II on 110th and Columbus.

There are a few southern style joints in Bed-Stuy such as the Halsey St. Grill.

I usually just go to Popeyes. Churchs chicken is pretty good too. I use to love KFC but for some odd reason I don't like it as much anymore.
