I was googling and found a thread on another site from some years ago, where someone specifically mentioned a place in Queens that's good for practicing parking.
Well, I need to practice parallel parking, even though I've had a license for a few years. The thing is, practicing with cones and such is useless to me--it's just so different wihen there are actual cars (and traffic) to deal with. So I need to real streets, but ones that are quiet and where I don't block traffic trying to park.
A friend will be with me to help me avoid trouble. But what are some good places to do that?

Woodhaven, Ozone Park and Richmond Hill in Queens. If you want to practice, another good spot is next to a park..like Park Lane South (next to Forest Park) or any of the residential streets in Bayside (like those bordering Crocheron Park).
You realize because you just listed the area I live in as well as the area my mother lives in if my car gets damaged in an unfortunate practice parallel-parking incident I'm blaming you, since I think the advice on these forums is google-able
Actually, parallel parking is not necessary in New York City because the last parking space was filled in 2006.
And the person who parked there is feeding the meter every 2 hours - until they run out of quarters or die. Expect it to become available sometime in 2015.
