7 to 25. Edge Brownsville. No accounting for population would catch up to Brownsville.
7 to 12 (?) : Edge East Harlem over ENY. Even though East NY is down, when you take the rate into account, East Harlem is higher.
Last year East NY was at 19 homicides per 100,000 while East Harlem was at 17 per 100,000. Nearly equal.
This despite both E.Harlem precincts having 20 homicides and East NY a wopping 34.
But Brownsville has been worst this year.
Remember if you dont take population into account, then Hunts Point with it's 8 homicides in 2007, was the safest neighborhood in the city. Despite being the murder capital with 20+ homicides per 100,000.

dont base it on just murders. there's other crimes that are committed.
burglary, robbery, rape, arson....
some murders could be a boyfriend stabbing and killing his girlfriend...i wouldnt exactly attribute that to something that would prevent me from walking down the street in that neighborhood.

I wanted to buy something but I can't imagine what I would need or even want to buy off pitkin.
Bodegas in brownsville do have little hugs though. I didn't want the red flavor one time and asked for the blue flavor and was told "aint nothin blue around here" hahaha.

No I agree. I was arguing with NooYowkur about it the other day. IMO, robberies, rapes and assaults are better indicators of a high crime neighborhood than murders. A murder can occur anywhere, but the first three need to have a criminal element in place. I jus use murders because it's quick and easy to calculate.

actually brownsville crips have a "good" reputation in the gang world. they're known to be fearless fighters and dont back down especially since there's so many bloods in brownsville. but i dont want to turn this thread into a gang discussion.

so as you're saying that, i'm pretty sure there are more rapes, robberies, and car vandalism in east new york and brownsville than in east harlem, and one reason why is because certain parts of east new york and brownsville are very isolated and late at night you could be the only one walking down the block. i think thats less of a problem in east harlem. same thing with around my way there's hardly anybody on the streets after dark, this is why robbery is a problem in far rockaway.

You can easily be the only one walking down the street in east harlem (not that I'm trying to defend supermario) there are usually cars on the street though (not that that would matter either) I was walking home once and right infront of the police department these 3 kids were jumping one kid. Right there infront of the police department. I couldn't believe it. If something pops off it's gonna pop off no matter what, it doesn't matter whos around.
I just read about that meals on wheels delivery man who was shot in the brownsville houses after delivering a meal. At 10:16 am, there were even people in the lobby.

no i agree that you can be the only one walking down the street in east harlem, just saying that in east new york and brownsville its definitely more chance of it happening.

Problem is most people looking for crime stats base their questions and fears on killings(whether the perp and victim know each other or or not) and for the most part nothing else. Look at those annual nationwide "most dangerous/safest city/town". What do they focus on? Killings. Look at the annual crime stats that the City boasts here. It only focuses on that.
