A young out of towner moved to Bushwick very recently, and after reading all the stories of horror and mayhem on this forum, she's ready to high tail it on outta there. Fortunately she has a month to month non-lease. To be perfectly honest, her housing situation made my area sound like Sunnybrook Farm by comparison--not so much in terms of safety (she hadn't felt afraid til she read some of the posts here) but in terms of a severe lack of everyday amenities like a good supermarket or even drug store.
So there you have it...same ****, different borough.
I definitely hate it when other NYrs try to scare outsiders about certain areas. I supposedly use to live in one of the worst areas to live in the city but I wasn't scared. I think you just have to be prepared that its not like a small town. You just need to be aware of ur area, get to know your neighbors, be friends with the local bodegas and get involved in the community. I believe that will help anyone feel better in there new place of residence in any part of the city.
