Or he could be way worse off moving to New York, and attempt to return in a few months- now jobless in CFL.
I don't have any way to say the future for certain, but cost of living vs. income means a LOT towards ones happiness, and I'm free to bring this up because he mentioned $$$$$. The OP also likes the weather and beaches, which are accessible 10 months out of the year there, 4 months out of the year here.
This is an assumption based on experience, and is in no way ridiculous.
If the salary is similar you may be trading home-ownership, emergency fund money, and the financial flow to go out to eat whenever you like, and vacation however you like- for what is just slightly more than enough to get by month to month in Manhattan.
