Yeah that's classic alright. Not to worry, the criminally rich have made NYC it's haven once again. With all the corruption happening in Wall Street then it makes sense for those benefiting to paint this era as classic. However, I agree it's all about perception. But painting the 70's - early 90's as dark times is a false categorization.

I kind of doubt NYC would have retained it's bubble if the banks weren't bailed out. Even with Giuliani, 9/11 and Bloomberg still on board. You can thank China for paying the bill as well. It figures some will find a way to turn the truth on this froth. Enjoy for now.
Cheers.

In terms of quality of life, economically and the cities overall progress those were dark times compared to the last 100 years or so though. Of course there was good that came out of it like all the creativity and excitement but in my view those were "dark days" for the city.

I don't disagree with the your statements on Wall Streets corruption

Of this I am absolutely CERTAIN.
The country bankrupted itself for a generation to come so that New York City could remain prosperous.

Born and raised here and it SHOCKS me how sterile the city is becoming. Do we really need 2 Starbucks, a Victoria's Secret, three Gaps and 2 banks on one block? Hyperbole, but still.

Come on.

If its so sterile, then go move to Brownsville or East NY if you want to keep it real.
