This is a silly thread but I will indulge for a minute. There has been a massive influx of Mexicans and Dominicans in the last 2 decades, while the PR population has been moving up and out to places like NJ, Pennsylvania, and primarily Florida.

Of all Hispanics, PRs still contain all the political clout because they have had a couple generations+ to make substantial inroads in politics...nothing special about them, just been here longer and are all citizens. Dominicans and Mexicans are relatively newbies and some Dominicans and many Mexicans have immigration "issues" so political clout will take time, but no doubt will be the dominant forces relatively soon IMO.

In terms of popularity, because Dominicans and Mexicans are younger, and Dominican music new it is popular (Mexican music is not popular however)......while salsa is tired and mainly for the old farts. Reggeaton is the exception and still going strong.

The future of NYC is one where PRs are secondary or tertiary to Mexican and Dominicans. PRs are still here, but it is increasingly becoming the older generation which either won't leave or could not leave (poor or just ornery)...alot of the younger PRs have moved on or plan to. Times change!

The same can be said for most people..you have 10th generation "real Americans" working themselves to death. Not sure what your point is...that's just life.

To My knowlege Mayor Bloomberg runs nyc and he is Jewish....... Just joking.

I think it depends on what you mean by running. I believe the Doms run the drugs in Upper Manhattan. Russians and Albanians run prostitution Asians have been running human trafficking.

Many PRs, as well as african americans with the means have left the city in droves.

If you desire a decent quality of life, you leave NYC. Period.

The 'new' immigrants have taken over, as well as the transplants.
