Get on the subway and go to Target! There is one on Queens on the R train only a few stops from Astoria. Also, there are several Bed, Bath and Beyond stores in Queens and Manhattan.
Back in suburb land, Walmart/Meijer/Costco/Best Buy.
I don't even know where to go to get quality products here.
There's a Costco 1 mile from where I am but how I am supposed to shop there without a car?
Bodegas are garbage. No thanks.
For example:
- I need to buy lots of alcohol free deodorants.
- I need to buy winter gloves that have no cover on the fingers.
- Quality shampoos.
Where can I find these products?
You should be able to find the deodorants at Rite Aid or Walgreens. Shampoos at salons. Gloves? I'd just cut the fingers off a pair. Maybe a hardware store?

Walgreens or Rite-Aid should have many of these things you need.
Why would winter gloves not have covers on the fingers? That seems to defeat the purpose... I've seen some fashion gloves that have that for like iPhone users but those would be sold at places like Gap or Forever21.
As far as Costco being there, with a Parking Lot- as you can guess, people DO have cars. NYC now has almost all the same shops as Suburb-land. You'll just have to drive to pick up lots of things from them.
I live in Manhattan and do a Costco run every other week... one time my car was out of commission and I had to take the bus, just meant I'd buy less.
what about getting a zip car for costco? i guess that would work. i wonder if it would be cheaper than a taxi.
