Yes, but movies and shows shot in NYC are much more realistic. If you try to do a NYC movie in Hollywood, any NYer can tell it's fake. What draws people to NYC in part are some of the movies and TV shows actually set in the city. Some just include NYC exterior shots, but the best ones, like Law and Order, are shot all over NYC.
There are so many great movies shot in NYC I can't even begin to list them. The big NYC directors are every bit as viable as the LA based ones. NYU is a top film school, and there are many famous NYU grads (Spike Lee, etc)--directors, actors, etc. Astoria studios have been around for ages as well.

Sure, NY is becoming more like LA or vice versa. So are most other major cities. The rise of the chains and ubiquitous media has diminished localism and regional variances making appearances and attitudes more uniform.
Still, NY and LA are bot great in their own way and both will retain something of a unique character.

yeah i know alot of movies and tv shows are shot in New York, however you cant say all are serious shows. So many super hero movies are shot in New York, or shows about destroying the buildings. still movies that suppose to be filmed in New York is really being filmed in downtown LA. Some people cant tell the diff but others who live there can.

Pete, by reading your posts I’ve come to the conclusion than you have no education further than 7th grade, you have no travel experience, and have a one-dimensional mind. Why would anybody on here listen to your claims? You prove your poor contribution to the forum with your empty-minded posts.
LA sets what trend? Gasoline price increases, pollution is good, superficiality is good, judging people based on their car, clothing, or body? Yeah, that’s a city I’d really look up to. LA is shaping its city after NYC. You’re TRYING to expand and produce adequate public transportation. You’re TRYING to plan a decent downtown. You’re TRYING to clean up crime. But, NYC has already done this first. Why? Because we set trends. We do it first, other cities follow.

So nu, Super hero movies are serious films by you?
I agree with SuperCop. I think you're just trying to defend LA at all costs and with little success.
Let's just put it this way--both coasts are big movie towns. Most NYC themed movies (esp those by big name NYC directors like Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, etc etc) are generally filmed on location, which if you're dealing with NYC makes them much more realistic--and if you're doing a film on NYC, it had best be as realistic as possible or else it's just a joke.
Nowadays most films or TV shows would at least do some outside shots of NYC if they had scenes "set" in NY. Too many people who know NYC could tell right away if the NYC shots were really from an LA set. Simply put, you can't really "fake" NYC streets too well.
One example that comes to mind is the movie "Eyes Wide Shut" with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. To me, it was pretty obvious that even though the movie was set in NYC that it didn't look "right." Far as I know, the entire film was made in England.
Another example is "Friends," supposedly set in NYC. Yeah, right.
Sex and the City...all NYC exterior shots far as I know.
I took a look at a Forbes.com article re: cities having a housing downturn and if memory serves there were several in CA and I think one of them was LA.

You can’t say they’re all serious shows? And LA’s movies are the most serious things in the World…
