There are some carribean, jamaican, haitian eateries that have oxtail, but I am hardly in those neighborhoods. Plus I like the hispanic style of oxtail a bit better.
Most of the better known Dominican spots in the heights have it on the menu at least once or twice a week. I know for sure El Malecon has it because I ate some there about a month or so back...

BTW my mom used to make it really good too, a little rum with some jalapenos in the sauce gives it a nice kick!!

(I make it half oxtail, half tripe. LOTS of work.)

Brazen...try some little Hispanic eatery.
Soooo..um, when's the next time you're making it? ...I'll bring the wine! I loooove both but my husband doesn't like either so it's not worth all the effort just for me.

I recall many years ago Huie's on Hempstead Ave and around 218 St made the best oxtail, rice and peas and a stew (I wanna say it was cow feet)...it was amazing. Not sure if he's there anymore.

For some reason my parents would on occasion make oxtail. Let's face it people..if this were 300 years ago with famines and such, I can understand not letting any piece of an animal go to waste, like tongue, ears, feet, internal organs, brains, eyeballs, and in this case, oxtail. We do not live in that world anymore (at least not the vast majority of us).

You don't need to eat pig hooves anymore people...nor do you need to eat oxtails. Leave it, along with chicken feet, to china and other such unedibles to other 3rd world countries who really need it.

Needless to say I am not a fan..if you need to dunk it in soy sauce, jalapenos, cook it for 10 hours, marinate for 2 days, just to make something reasonably edible...you probably should not eat it!

Haha I remember eating a lot of spam as well (rarely eat it now but it's still good)! I miss the oxtail.. Haven't had it since like junior high, which was a few years back
