Hello all,

Ever since Hurricane Sandy it, I've noticed that the trash and recycling has been piling up on the street and sidewalks around Forest Hills, and other residential parts of Queens for the last two weeks.... what gives?

Well, Bloomberg decided to reduce the # of times for garbage/recycling pick ups for less effected areas from Sandy.. I'm guessing it's because there are other areas that need more of the attention than Queens. I live in Queens as well, and am experiencing the same situation as you are, but we didn't get hit hard from the hurricane (at least my part didn't) so there's that!

I believe that they are starting to pick up the trash and recycling again although I know that some is still left from earlier on.

I sure hope so, as the trash piling up in Forest Hills, by the apartment buildings is becoming an eyesore.... and taking up space on the sidewalks!!

The supers aren't doing a very good job. Because they were not supposed to put any trash out until it was going to get picked up.

I hear ya...but its a tricky situation.... do you keep all the trash on the apartments grounds, and risk attracting rodents, or put it out on the streetside for pickup and cause an eyesore for the neighborhood... either way my fingers are crossed.

it doesn't matter where it's at it will still attract rodents. If it's enclosed properly it won't attract them. If it's just hanging out on the street they would be more likely to get to it.

It's the same in Manhattan. My thought is that Sanitation workers are being deployed elesewhere.
But it really is a mess all over the UES.

And then you have the people scavenging for their nickel bottles ripping open the bags, spilling the contents, and making thing worse.
