Does any one know if Con Edison is refunding people for spoiled food, during Sandy's power outage, as well as reducing the bill for lack of electricity usage? And what does people have to do to file for it? Thank you,

Ask Fema or your favorite superhero Bloomberg to replace your food.

nope, they explain on their website they only refund food in normal circumstances not during a hurricane that's out of their control. fema is not offering any assistance with replacing food. i think your only option to replace food is if you receive snap/food stamps - they are offering credits back for food loss.

also - as far as usage credits, i've yet to figure this out. i received a bill from con ed yesterday for usage through nov 6. funny, i don't remember using any electricity in november. still waiting to get power back, and you can bet once i do my first phone call will be to con ed to try to get a credit.

Even if you don't "use" any electricity, there is still a base fee for having service, I believe. I doubt they would credit this even if power wasn't available. If they did do that, they would probably wind up raising rates to offset it!

just found this on the con ed website:

"Meter reading is suspended during restoration work. If you receive an estimated bill, we will adjust your bill after your next meter reading as necessary."
