Hi I'm wondering what volunteer oppourtunites there are in New York City around New Years Eve time. I could stay approx 5 nights and I would like to come around New Year's Eve so I could see the Ball Drop in Times Square as well. I need a place to stay during this time and I'm wondering if any volunteer progams offer free or discounted housing.

Have you moved past wanting to move on unemployment and now just want to come for a holiday?

I don't know of any volunteer groups that offer housing for short-term volunteers. NY Cares is a popular volunteer organization but they do not offer housing. Housing is very expensive in NYC and most volunteer organizations would not have those funds available to bring out-of-towners in for New Years Eve. You can try airbnb for short term stays.

No friends to stay with?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to pay someone for the work rather than paying for their housing?

If I am wrong... crap... I got this thing all wrong and I would like to volunteer in Cancun next summer.

Some hotels give discounts to volunteers believe it or not, Im wondering if any would do that around NYC or what my cheapest way to go for housing would be. Some progams do give housing, when I was in college Alternative Spring Break I volunteered in New Orleans and DC and there was housing available as long as you volunteered that week.

So maybe call some local volunteer networks and ask around.

I would doubt it, but you can always research it.
