For me uptown includes everything from the beginning of Harlem around 110th Street all the way up to BUT not including the Bronx.
The Bronx is the Bronx. When talking of uptown and downtown I only consider Manhattan.

Here is my definition of "Uptown", I lived in Inwood and The Bronx.
Uptown is anything above 96th Street, east and west and The Bronx, especially the West BX on the 1 Line. Anything below is downtown to me. I've heard people people refer to a downtown Bronx, pretty much the most southern part.
The reason why I consider The Bronx Uptown is because the numbered streets continue numerically into this borough from Manhattan. Street numbers do not continue numerically through Queens or Brooklyn, only in Manhattan and The Bronx.

Uptown to me is this: Upper Manhattan (anything above 110th on the westside. 96th on the eastside) and the South Bronx. That is especially true in a hop-hop context.

theoretically anything above 59st is uptown, midtown is 34 to 59, lower manhattan is south of worth or chambers st.

I think super mario had the most accurate description. You have to go through "uptown" to get to the bronx (via train). However uptown also generally means NORTH and downtown means SOUTH.
Some people in queens and bk etc use uptown exclusively to refer to harlem and above but in manhattan, while some use it geographically when refering to the north and the bronx as well so it's very subjective. This is soooooo a "what parts are considered the south bronx" reincarnated

If you listen to "Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel and how he compares how his uptown girl is looking for a downtown guy it puts it in a new perspective (the working class man from the boros who loves a girl from the UES). At least that's how i interpret it

True but the numbered streets are crooked. For example, 181st in Manhattan is 174th in the Bronx......207th is 188th in the Bronx. Is it really a continuation?
