Don't know the area at all. I did an externship at Downstate back in 2000 and at that time the area was NOT something that I would consider comfortable for myself (single female) but things change...
I just can't bear the idea of moving back into Boro Park where I spent 10 years of my graduate school

Hi...I lived near Brooklyn College (MS..1975) many years ago. It was changing for the worse at that time. If you attended Downstate...you should know how dangerous the area is....especially being a single female. NYC is very racially polarized; This is one reason, why, since I have retired I want to move to southern California. (Originally, I wanted Hawaii..but caucasians make up only 2O% if the population and the native Hawaiians hate us.) Presently, I live in Belle Harbor, (private house)Queens..all caucasian...and safe. But you go 3 miles into FAR Rockaway and it is all balck and dangerous!....NYC is for making money! And then getting out...if you can accept the stress. I will answer any questions that you have. Sincerely, Andre

I currently hold a lease to the flatbush gardens and I have to say that it has a few challenges. i prefer to live at my jay street address, but my better half got this place b/c of close proximity to work. I dont know about walking around the neighborhood after dark by yourself, my mate wants me in the house before dark, unless I am driving. But the mgmt there is funny about fixing things and I know they are having trouble with their inside mgmt and funding. But it is a good deal, especially since I can walk a couple of blocks and get some caribbean food and the 2 train goes straight into manhattan. So to the OP, just know that it is suspect, but if you want to save a little money then try it out, but get everything you need to have down to the unit you are getting before you sign the lease. They are a pain in the butt to get stuff done.

don't matter becAUSE theY change don't mean the people do
I formally live in flatbush garden/vanderveer at the moment
an i wouldn't even refer a bum to live here.as my title say don't matter because they changed the name means the people change because their still smoking weed or pot outside, gang members, shoot out's,graffitti on the floors & wall, profound smell's,pee in the elevator, shooting off the top off the building ,firecracker's going off in the hallway's of your building ,prositution tho it may not seem like but i have 2 in my building and i don't want my kids growing up around that..so flashbush gardens would be a thumbs down 2 live

There were horror stories of people having holes in the ceiling so big that they could actually see their upstairs neighbor thru it.....
Supposedly its all fixed up now, hence the new name "flatbush gardens"
but im skeptical
either way go check it out, maybe they really did fix it up.
But for the record it was a dangerous development.
2 train to newkirk and nostrand its like a block or 2 away.

YOU KNOW WHAT I FIND FUNNY THAT Elvira Black IS WRITTING ABOUT HOW FLATBUSH GARDEN HAS CHANGE SO MUCH AND IS REPLING BACK TO ALL THE BAD REMARKS ABOUT IT BUT YET IT'S SAY SHE LIVES IN BRONX ,NEW YORK AND IF YOU SHOULD COMMENT ON THINGS YOU SHOULD BE LIVING THEIR OR IN THAT AREA AND NOT IN ANOTHER BOROUGH.I FIND THIS PLACE 2 STILL BE BAD AND RACIST AGAINST WHITE OR CHINESE PEOPLE AND YOU CANT CHANGE THAT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ..ALL THEIR IS NEW MANAGEMENT AND YET MUCH HAVE NOT CHANGED BECAUSE WHEN MY TOILET GETS JAMMED I'M BUT ON A WAITING LIST AND 2 WEEK LATER THEN IT IS FIXED ..SO COMING FROM A PERSON THAT LIVE IN FLATBUSH GARDEN I WOULD KNOW..THUMBS DOWN >>
