Just to let people know, especially those who ride the C, 7, 6, A, F, R, J lines.

The are 3 types of subway cars that will begin service between 2013-2022/3 period. I will go in order from closest to farthest away.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
R188 cars (Kawasaki) for when CBTC is implemented on the Flushing-Corona line.
Base Order Delivery between 2011-2015
The order is for 506 cars, enough to make up the 46 trains needed for increased service AND the 7 subway extension.

The breakdown goes like this: 146 new R188 cars. 360 cars will be converted R142A cars (Renamed R188) from the 6 line. The current R62A equipment will be sent to the 6 line.

Currently, there are 23 cars on property. 13 of those cars are pure, brand new, R188s. 10 Cars are converted R142A cars from the 6 line.
Testing began today and the first 3 trains should be in passenger service by May.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
R179. 300 new cars being built by Bombardier for the replacement of the R32s and R42s being operated on the C and J/Z lines (260 cars). An extra 40 cars for the opening of Phase I of the Second Avenue Subway.

These cars will expamd on the technology of the R160 currently operating on the E, F, J/Z, L, M, N, Q lines.
They well also include wiring for security cameras.

Delivery of 10 pilot cars is scheduled to take place in the third quarter of 2014, followed by delivery of the remaining production series cars between mid-2015 and early 2017.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The R211. Builder unknown right now (award expected 2015) and is intended to replace the 752 R46s found on the A, F, and R lines.

This will be the first in the Next Generation of NYCT Subway cars and should begin delivery somewhere between 2017-2020.

First Pic is of the R188(R142A Conversion) in Corona Yard.
Second pic is of the R179 exterior.
Third pic is the R179 interior.

The R211 is still in the design phase so we may not have a picture of what it looks like until 2015 at the earliest.

The 6 train line runs some great stock. One of the first lines to be upgrades in the last big push.

I hope we eventually get some digital implementation such as touch-based information centers over paper maps.

Cool, I can experience train delays in brighter, better designed cars.

Actually, the 6 and 7 are swapping cars. The 7 will get the newer equipment from the 6 and the 6 will get the older equipment. Though replacements for the R62/R62A cars should appear around 2025-2030.

To the guy above, the 7 line, after all of it's R188s are here will begin CBTC operation. That is what all the disruptions on the 7 were for in these past few years. When it is implemented, trains will run faster, closer together, and will make room for extra trains. Much like the L line now.
