Unless you worked and/or lived in Compton, you get no cred for "surviving" LA for 5 whole years.

I don't plan on walking around a lot, given the fact the subway stations aren't that close to either buildings, so basically I just want to know: Is the probablity: High, Medium high, Medium, Medium low, or Low, that I could get robbed, stabbed, shot, shanked, jumped, raped, or asked to buy drugs from someone, while I am walking the 10 feet to and from my building door and my car?

Nothing to worry about walking to your car and getting assaulted....because within a week your car will be gone.

If you seriously don't get this, then, you should definitely NOT move to any of these neighborhoods.

What your budget will be to rent elsewhere?

HAHAHA! See, Compton is not that bad at all. Everyone has the perception of it being horrible, and I did too, until I lived in South Central, and a "rough" part of downtown LA for over a year. Give me some street cred..please!? lol

My budget will probably be around $1200-$1500, I suppose. I get a free apartment if I stay in the building in Stuyvesant Heights, so I haven't really figured out what I can afford if I chose to live elsewhere.

LOL! Pasty white boys! lol I love it!!! Well I'm Puerto Rican and Black, and grew up in a country, cow milking, square dancing, small town in Alabama with other pasty white people, so I'm not really worried about the ethnic mixture of the neighborhood I'm in. I get along with everyone. I also would definitely like to stay in Brooklyn so I can get to the buildings quickly if something is going on with one of the units or my tenants need help. I want to be a good building manager.

People like to exaggerate on this board. The likelihood of you getting stabbed, shot, or killed in these neighborhoods is very low unless you are involved in gang or drug related activity- those are the people that are the targets of this type of violence. Now, that doesn't mean that you wouldn't hear gun shots or see people selling drugs but it's not like you're going to be stabbed the minute you step on the street. People need to stop that type of fear mongering.

Since you are leaning towards the Bed Stuy building I will point out that it's far from the A/C subways which are on Fulton street. Generally speaking, the further you are away from those train lines (and the G line which is in the more western part of the neighborhood) the more "hood" things tend to be. Bed Stuy is very, very large- about 4 miles. If you want to live in the neighborhood for proximity to the buildings you manage, there are other sections that fare better in terms of safety and amenities.

You can find a studio or 1 bed for $1200- $1500 in Bed Stuy. Try looking west of Malcolm X and below Halsey- better area.

Thank you for your input! I appreciate neutral opinion on the area. Someone messaged me and suggested Crown Heights so I will look into that as well. Oh and as far as car theft. Does that happen often? I seriously think I would just die if someone stole my car. I have a garage space that is covered and locked so I don't think it will happen at the building, but what about generally parking on the street? How do you prevent car theft? Do I need to get one of those wheel locking things?

Well, I have a car, and it's nice (as in luxury convertible) and I live in Bed Stuy- albeit in Western section which is well on it's way to gentrification complete with white people pushing baby strollers. I have a friend that lives in the eastern area near Malcolm X and Jefferson and have never had issues with my car parked over there, ever- and this is when I've been over there for parties that go into the wee hours. She has a car and parks it on the street. It's also a "nice car" (newer model SUV). Only issue she had was that someone keyed her car- the likely suspect was her crazy azz ex boyfriend. But I should point out that she didn't like to park her car on Malcolm X
