Reading though this thread from begining to end & seeing all the early conculsions & misinformation early on & though the pages of the thread makes me question the media. So much misinformation given out, people attacking & creating facebook hate pages against Ryan Lanza & he isn't even the shooter.
So many questions remain, most will go unanswered. Why did Nancy Lanza own 5 semi-automatic weapons. What was the need? Why did the shooter go to the school & kill those children after he killed his Mother. Many of these questions will begin with why & will go unanswered.
Moderator cut: Please take the gun control debate to the appropriate thread. Politics & Other Controversies is the appropriate forum for a national debate on the issue. Thank you
Lack of empathy can be very relevant in shootings. The shooter had aspergers, and lack of empathy is a trait. It's very possible he wasn't a sociopath or psychopath.
The shooter was Adam Lanza aged 20 years old (and not his older brother Ryan as previously posted). It seems that Adam had with him some identification of his older brother and therefore the mistaken identification.
There are 20 children dead plus 8 adults. 18 children were dead at the school and 2 more children pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The shooter killed his mother before coming to the school and committed suicide after killing all those children and adults at the school.
According to NBC this morning, one classmate (a little girl) of the dead children was home sick yesterday and therefore was saved but lost of all her classmates.
The guns used by the shooter were legally owned by his mother who was his first victim.
The older brother Ryan of the shooter lives in Hoboken and was escorted by police after being questioned for hours to be with his family in Connecticut. He is not a suspect but he did tell police that his brother was mentally ill. The older brother's roommates were also questioned but released as well.
The killer's father lives in Stamford, Connecticut and is remarried. His home was also searched for clues to why this happened.

How do you know he had Asperers? Do you know him? What else do you know about him? I am curious.
I heard John Coffey retired detective in NYC that was interviewed on CNBC that Adam, showed signs of a sociopath and a psychopath I also heard early yesterday but not confirmed he Adam may have had autisum. spelling.
should mentally ill people be listed and watched by the general public, just like those sex offenders?
every body hates sex offenders but like to excuse brutal murders for their unhealthy mental conditions; yet look, what pychos can do to the general public....
guns in the hands of a mentally ill....what was his mother thinking of? she paved herself a shortcut to hell while leaving tremendous amounts of pain for numerous other families. this does not have anything to do with politics or government, but just some failed and toxic citizenship that can occur at anytime anywhere...
i cannot hide my anger for those idiotic parents who should not have become parents in the first place.
when i heard about this the 1988 Charles Bronson movie "Messenger Of Death" came to mind--that opening scene. I am not posting this to get off topic but I'm sure what was seen in that movie paralelled this tragedy
I don't want to touch the gun control debate with a ten foot stick, but if it's true that the shooter's mother had assembled a small arsenal, then that has to make you wonder about her state of mind and mental health. Maybe the whole family was dysfunctional.
