I really hope this thread doesn't get moved because I tend to only comment on threads from our city but I can't even begin to tell you how my heart aches for these people for these children and for those who lost their lives... For those who have children, hug your kids extra hard today and please exercise caution at all times with them... I know situations like this there is no way to prepare for but anything we can do as parents or as adults to protect our young ones we must try to do so... My prayers go out to all the families of the children and other people who lost their lives today...

It's amazing some of the people who breathe the same air we breathe... They claim he was someone who had deficiencies but this was pre-meditated I don't care how they try to spin it... This is one of the most disgusting things I have ever heard or seen in my life...

That death toll is so sad. The article says the shooter was a father of one of the students. I don't have words.

This is unacceptable.

Moderator cut: Please discuss political issues on a national scale in the Politics & Other Controversies forum. Thanks. This is nonsense already. I cannot even begin to imagine what the parents of those children must be feeling right about now.

Parents should not have to be afraid to let their children attend school.

I think it is disgusting and appauling that this type of stuff happens here in our country.

Newtown is regional, and we discuss other aspects of suburbs in a general sense on this forum, so it's an appropriate discussion to have here as well because of the magnitude of this horrific event. All I ask is that we keep things civil, and not weigh political discussions at this juncture, though there is a thread in Politics & Other Controversies for such discussion, especially related to gun control, which is a hot-button issue in light of this violent act.

And, for those of you who are parents, or uncles, or aunts, or grandparents, or who otherwise have children in your life (friends, cousins, acquaintances), give them an extra hug, kiss, or measure of affection and think of those those who did not make it home from what started out to be a typical Friday morning at school.

Please, be civil to one another in posts in this thread, in the spirit with which it was posted, as a means to discuss the horrible tragedy and reactions to it from those in our area of the region. Thank you.
