If your kid was accosted by a schoolmate NOT on school grounds, NOT during school times, etc., does your ***private*** school intervene also? Because that's what happened in this case. The ONLY THING about the arrest/handcuffing/etc. having to do with the school is that the police arrested the kid on school property.
YES it would. Most especially if a group of parents banded together and reported the bully. As I've stated many times in this thread, school is the best venue to settle these incidents without going to extremes. In the case of one bully who would harass the female students on the public bus going home, teacher first tried to work with the kid and when it went on the headmaster and asst. headmaster sat down w/ the father of the bully and told him that his kid would be expelled if it continued. There is nothing stopping the *private* school from seeking a peaceful resolution. Everyone benefits, even the bully. Why would the school not get involved when disputes can be settled peacefully without going to extremes like getting cops involved?

I have to admit, that's pretty good.
Back when I was a kid, all fights had to take place off school grounds to avoid the school getting involved. Schools generally would not (could not?) get involved if it didn't take place on their property.
The only reason the cops were involved is because the victim's mother called them. The cop calling had nothing to do with the school personnel.
I've seen the news stories and have to say I lean toward believing the victim.
My biggest problem is that the cops held this kid for hours before the mother was able to see him. Why didn't the school or the police notify the mother as to where her child was?
I would FREAK if my kid was taken out of school by the police without my knowledge. The cops should have notified the mother the moment they got the kid to the precinct. Regardless what he is accused of, he is still only 7 years old.
