My wife and I are planning our first cruise vacation this years. Norwegian Cruise Line will launch a new mega ship in May. New York is the home port. I know this may not be the best place to ask. Since some members may have taken cruises from NYC before, would you like share some experience? Any Dos and Don'ts for newbies like us? Thanks.

I took NCL twice from Manhattan and loved it. I took the A train, then a cab from the train station to the port or you can have someone drop you off. Before I had to fly down to Miami, which was a hassle.I think its very convienent leaving from the NYC port, just dont over pack. Your gonna have a blast, and the new ship looks awseme. Enjoy your trip, ill be going soon.
Loved when I took a cruise out of Manhattan. It was so incredibly convenient. The check-in and security I found no different than other ports. I guess the one difference would be don't expect to drive and park. It's easy to get to from public transportation.
I get jealous when I see the big cruise ships on the Hudson - wish I was on them!
I've heard someone complains about BIG new ships. It is overcrowding, spending lots of time waiting for all activities. Should we wait after summer and go in Sept. or Oct.? Will it be too cold for outside activities like water park on the top deck?

I've left once from NYC in October. It really only takes about a day on sea before you hit warm temperatures and you'll be able to enjoy stuff outdoors. Just remember to pack a warm outfit for getting there and leaving.

i taken a carnival and ncl cruise out of nyc always in sept and never had a problem. If you sail on carnival, they have a retractable roof on one of the decks so you can still enjoy some of the water stuff

If you wait till Sept or Oct you're going to be going during hurricane season.
What is plan B for cruise lines if hurricane hits?
