I commute with child from outside of Manhattan. It's about 45 - 50 minutes (sometimes longer) door to door by MNR and subway from so. Westchester to UES.

Unless you are planning to drive into the city, taking public transpo with K child from Rosedale may not be a good idea. Young kids get tired easily and this will affect their performance. Worse, Spence and Brearley are in the UES and will be challenging to get to if you take the LIRR to Penn Stn.

You might want to consider private schools in Queens or Southern Nassau like Kew Forest, Garden School or Lawrence Woodmere. Academics in these schools are fine and commute will take less of a toll on the kid.

Thanks for responding. I take the LIRR from rosedale to Atlantic terminal which is 35 minutes and then the 4 or 5 uptown. I am also considering St. Ann's in downtown Brooklyn but not interested in queens schools. Anyone else commute with kids for school?

OK. Sounds like a long way considering that Lawrence Woodmere Academy is just 10 mins away from Rosedale.

Brooklyn schools would be better than UES.

Spence and Brearley are excellent schools but it may not make a difference or turn out worse if the commute wears down on the kid.
