Yeah it does. The worst neighborhood in the North Bronx is Fordham-Bedford easily. Then I would put Wakefield.

Agreed strongly and unfortunately that Fordham-Bedford is the worst neighborhood north of the Fordham Rd-Pelham Pkwy area. There's too many teens with too much time in their hands and too much seedy activity.

Thats true, I lived and went to HS in NE BX and life in the Bronx felt like a daily battle avoiding violence and robberies and so on. Then I finished HS and went to college, and I didn't run into too many problems. That trend continues as I get older. A large part of that is the dramatic drop in crime in the BX and NYC in general, but its true, that a lot of crime is youth related. Kids messing with others kids, and once you out grow that age range you avoid alot of that. There are alot of wannabe thugs who only bother people who are there peers.
Also, Norwood is not really Northeast Bronx, you could make an argument that it is, but when you say NE BX, most people think of the area east of the Bronx River Pkwy. The Montifore Hosp. crowd limts the "riff raff" in that area.
why did i say riff raff lol.

78,000?? I find that quite unbelievable. median income there is higher than say Hunts Point or Soundviews, but 78,000 is off the charts. Where did you get that stat at?? You have any links?
I have avg household income by zip codes that are all or in part within the NE BX:
10466 - $37,141 (Area north of E 222nd St and includes Edenwald and parts of Wakefied)
10467 - $29,044 (the lowest, covers areas along White Plns Rd from Pelham Pkwy to E 222nd St, includes Gun Hill and Parkside pj's....and also some of Norwood)
10469 - $42,102 (pretty high for the BX!.does include areas just north of the eastern part of Pelham Pkwy, that likely upped the avg.)
10475 - $40,528 (also higher than the BX avg, this is almost exclusively Co-op City)

Well im new to this site and would love to chime in on this topic.. First off let me say that im a FDNY Medic in the Wakefield section of the BX....So basically i see all the "good" stuff up close and in person. Lets first start off by saying that the South Bronx is a different animal then the North. By that I mean worst. The NE section of the BX should be considered anything east of White Plains rd and north of Pelham Pkwy. Co-op city is not bad at all. Section 5 is alittle ghetto simply because its isolated on the otherside of the highway. If I were to draw a box I would say anywhere from White Plains to Eastchester & Gun Hill to 241st is the hot zone for the 47.. Most of my shootings & stabbings occur here. Edenwald is downright disgusting! Edenwald is also the largest project development in the Bronx. 222nd & White Plains is a hot zone. I could go on and on but basically once u cross White plains going towards the Bronx River it kinda eases up. NW Bronx (Riverdale) is fantasyland .

Incomes in some Bronx areas can fluctuate wildly within a few blocks. If you use property shark you can zoom in on incomes almost by block and building and the differences can be startling.I live in a zip code where the median is $30,00 and a census tract in which the official median income is around $40,000 but when you zoom in on blocks and pockets within the larger tract you find areas where the median is up around $70,000 or more.
This isn't really surprising because $70,000 isn't really that much ,as we all know. It is a typical teachers salary . I make a little more than that and in my building and the immediate surrounding area I am probably on the low side. There are lawyers, doctors, college professors and teachers with 20 years tenure in my building that I am sure all make considerably more than me.
It is mostly coop buildings right around me and the 1 br apartments are selling for an average of about $175,000( 2 br's a little over $200,000). You can't buy a $170,000 apartment these days without an income of at least 65,00 or 70,00 so that means everyone moving into the neighborhood must be making AT LEAST that much.
Houses throughout the Northeast Bronx are selling all the time (even during the downturn) for $400,000 to $700,000. My guess is that the banks are not letting anyone buy a $400,000 house unless there is at least 125,000 or 150,000 in income.
So there must be a lot of people living and moving into the North East Bronx with incomes of $70,00 or $100,000 or more. The projects are filled with people who make considerably less than the median and that is what makes the numbers so low.

Please donot go by those flawed stats... The 16th Congressional district in the Bronx is the poorest neighborhood in the country!! Out of 435 districts in the country it is number 1.. Sad but true. 42.2% of the residents there are below the poverty line. Median income there is a whopping $19,311. And all of us New Yorkers know how far 19 grand a yr will get u. Oh and By the way... 655,000 ppl live in this district. The population of the bronx is 1.4 million.

Probably true but the 16th congressional district is mostly(and includes all of) the South Bronx. This thread is about neighborhoods in the North Bronx. The North Bronx is mostly in the 17th district and the 7th district, both of which have very different demographics and income statistics than the 16th.

I know... just basically throwing that out there as food for thought. This isnt really a discussion for the "northern" bronx. If that was the case we should throw Riverdale in with Edenwald...lol This is a discussion of the NE Bronx. Primarily the 47th precint.

Oh and as of today...the 47 now has the highest murder rate in the Bronx. 25% higher then the next precinct which is the 40..And that doesnt include the murder on 229/Bronxwood last night. Luckily the other guy was just shot in the leg or else we would talkin about a double homicide..
