I never felt threatened by the area though. I think I spent more time in the NE Bronx than in Harlem in the late nineties.

Is the general area you speak of anywhere near Pelham Bay? I was going to start a thread about that anyway. I know that's way north. I used to know someone there in the early 1980's. It was said to be extremely safe then. I remember walking home to my friend's house late at night and being scared, and my friend laughing, saying that the locals patrol the streets and would never allow "outsiders" to come anywhere near there. How is it now?

Was there ever a section of the NE bronx known as "Germantown" that had a large Germanic population?

I've never heard of that for this area. However I know there is an area of North Philly that is called Germantown (however no Germans live there currently).

To the op:

First of all, please remember that even the north bronx is considered the south bronx on this forum. The only other thing you have to know is that if you venture within the borders of the Bronx, or even the one mile circu****ence surrounding it, you will likely not live to tell about it. How do you think all us forumers are still alive and posting? We've got those savvy street smarts. Don't believe the real estate hype!!

Definitely not safe for decent, law abiding white people. The whole damn borough is a ghetto hole.

Source of reference: Hustla and associates.

Remember: stay away!!!!!!!!!!

Want to know the high crime areas of the north Bronx?

47th precinct. There are a couple decent pockets but the overall area is crap. Those decent pockets are also disappearing. The worst of it being around the housing projects and of course White Plains Road. The area around Dyre Ave is pretty hot, also around Boston Road, Gun Hill Road, and Baychester Ave. The Valley should also be mentioned. Worst strip overall is White Plains Road. Bad as it gets. Wild.

In the 52nd precinct south of Bedford Park Blvd is the hood end of story. Decent pockets north of that. Some blocks are hot, some are not. Some pockets are hot, some are not. Overall area is going to ****.

50th precinct, Kingsbridge and Kingsbridge Heights have hot areas. In Kingsbridge Heights that would be the area near Kingsbridge Road, also near the PJ's on W 134th Street lots of drug activity. In Kingsbridge around the El. Both areas are going through a decline. Marble Hill should also be mentioned. Marble Hill PJ's effects both Marble Hill and Kingsbridge. Large complex.

Allerton is the east Bronx not the north, but the areas near the Parkside PJ's down to Allerton Ave have really gone to ****. East of White Plains Road is a slow decline for the immidiate blocks off the El, and there are a couple hot blocks and corners.

Yeah I did go to spellman and it was a hellish experience going to school. While I was there they finally commissioned private buses to take kids to the various train stops because of the constant harrassment and assaults...good old North Bronx...gotta love it. I never experienced such harassment, anger, animalistic behavior and rampant hate ....and I was born and raised in Mott Haven!!! It was strange going to school up there. Good school...and good experience otherwise...once the buses were provided it was fine.

I don't see the upside in areas up there, just a deterioration in many of those communities. I am not a fan of areas like Throggs Neck, Morris Park etc...as they are too suburban like..and commute to the city is either too difficult/long, or too expensive to drive/express bus. They serve their purpose though if you prefer a suburban quiet setting in the city...I am a city kid....and like being close to the city...so it's a completely different lifestyle.
