Who's the Greenest and the Cleanest
I've been doing a lot of research before moving to the city and I have had so much help from the people on this board. I want to hear everyone's thoughts on what neighborhoods in which boroughs have the greenest areas and the cleanest streets.
I'm not under any misconseptions about city life. I understand that there is concrete everywhere and garbage no matter where you look. I'm just hoping to find out which hoods' seem to place an emphasis on keeping their areas clean and which areas have some good looking streets and parks with as much plant life and trees as possible. You can only tell so much from pictures so I want to hear it from the people on this board. Thanks in advance!!

Honestly to me all of NYC, and nearby areas like LI, Westchester, and Jersey could use an improvement in this area.

I think you should visit NY and look and see what you like.
There are many, many beautiful green and clean neighborhoods throughout, so it would be hard to name them all.
You might like Brooklyn Heights.

Thanks SaintLauren. I am planning a trip after the holidays where I will be checking out the various neighborhoods on my list. My fear though, is that with the possibility of snow on the ground there will be no way to tell what that same hood looks like and feels like during the spring/summer. That's why I started this thread. Brooklyn heights is actually on my list. Here are the places that I'm currently researching.
Queens - Astoria, Forrest Hills, Bayside
Brooklyn - Ft. Greene, Brooklyn Heights, Bayridge, Clinton Hill, and possibly Park Slope (or somewhere close to Prospect Park that might be more affordable).

The Bronx has actually the largest amount of parks in the city. Pelham Bay Park, Vancortland Park, Botanical Gardens, the Bronx Zoo and other smaller parks found in the borough. So its probably the Greenest.

Yeah I guess you could make the argument that the Bronx has a lot of parks, making it "green" somehow. (In reality I'd disagree with this idea though, the Bronx probably has the worst air pollution in the city along with the highest asthma rates among children, etc). However the Bronx is probably the least clean of all the boroughs, so it definitely can't be the cleanest.
Madmj, your list is pretty good. I think most of the places on your list are nice neighborhoods. You just have to come here and take a look around and see which neighborhood you feel suits you best. If I were in your shoes I'd feel happy to live in just about all of the neighborhoods you listed.

I agree with the pollution in the Bronx but I think you will find less if you go near the Westchester border, so I would not place it in the cleanest also. But it sure is green and I didn't realize the amount of park space in the Bronx until I worked with a non-profit organization that is working to create a Bronx River Greenway for pedestrians and bicyclists. It received millions of dollars and don't really know when the construction is going to begin.
I forgot the name of the organization, sorry. If your looking for a place to live the places you posted are good starts. Good luck.
