yes, food shopping in manhattan can be expensive. There are ways to save which have been discussed in other threads. You can look at freshdirect .com which some people in manhattan use to deliver grocery to their apartments. You can peruse it and get a feel for food prices.

Some nyc people use zipcar .com to "rent" cars when they need them. A lot cheaper than garaging & maintaining a car in nyc. They even have minivans to bring your kids outside nyc.

fyi, private school can be extremely expensive even at your income levels.

Park slope all the way

Its going to be tough raising three kids in Manhattan. Park slope is a lot friendlier.
