Any up and coming NYC basketball stars? Which borough would you say produces the best basketball stars? The three high schools in jersey(st. Joseph, st. Benedict, and st. Anthony)are dominating high school basketball in the New York City metropolitan area right now.

Yea, the NYC basketball scene has been waning for a few years now. It's not what it used to be. There's more immigrants that are playing soccer, cricket, tennis, as opposed to the traditional basketball, baseball and football days. The days of stickball and box crate cut out basketball in the streets are long gone... FWIW, the tennis scene at Hyland park is getting serious though... Those Jamaican guys can play some tennis.

Getting back to your OP, I haven't heard of anyone really coming up and making noise recently but you can check the PSAL website and see whose making noise and seems to be generating some buzz from NBA scouts... I'd assume some of the leagues in South Queens as well as Northeast BK and North and South Bronx are making the most noise... That's where the talent usually comes from. And Lincoln always used to be on top so that's where I'd look if I were you

It almost seems like NYC has lost its hunger in basketball and hip hop. Not what it used to be.

Basketball I'll give you... Underground Hip Hop we gotta agree to disagree there... There's too many artists blowing up right now underground to say that it's lost its hunger. I just think that they fell out of what was popular. Back then lyricism and hooks was what everyone was into... Nowadays, you just need a catchy beat and a repetitive line to get the masses going... It's why NYC lost its popularity... We never went for that kind of stuff. Thankfully, there's a growing number of people out there getting sick of this new school garbage hip hop and are recycling old samples and following that 90s generation type of hip hop... I've talked about it before on previous threads. Just search NYC hip hop on the forum and you'll see the hits...

I agree there to an extent. Joey bada$$ is probably my favorite emcee out right now. Sometimes it seems like people try to resemble that 90s style so much that seems artificial sometimes though. I haven't seen too many NYC rappers that have impressed me lately though with the exception of Joey. Underground does seen like its getting more popular though. And I can't stand ASAP rocky at all. His lyrics are so simple. It's funny because I'm probably the only Italian American in my age group that actually liked hip hop when it started out.

Prep schools and AAU basketball have really changed the landscape.

A lot of players go to prep schools. Is it because they get more attention there or because the facilities and coaching staffs are better? It seems like less and less players play for public schools anymore. Andrew wiggins is a prep high schooler as well. Well, was a prep high schooler being that he's going to Kansas this upcoming college season

Torae, Skyzoo, Jae Apollo (warring with the devil, this city), Capital Steez (my favorite from Pro Era even more than Joey B, dude was a monster on the mike), Action Bronson, Vado, Jae Millz, Joell Ortiz, Flatbush Zombies, Danny Brown (some of his stuff), Smoke DZA (he's making noise again), The kid Daytona, and there's more I can't remember right now... Like I said, underground is gaining steam. You just gotta look around

Underachievers are pretty good too. But yeah I haven't listened to Bronson that much but everyone says he sounds ghostface killah. I thought skyzoo was from Baltimore? And yeah Steeze was nice. Flatbush zombies are pretty good. I like the one kid with the dreads. I forgot his name but he snapped on some of the tracks I heard from them. Everyone else I don't really know too much about. I might just be stuck in the 80s and 90s era of hip hop. I love jay, big, big daddy Kane, rakim, DMX, redman etc.

It seems like Joey hasn't been the same since he's been doing all that third eye stuff. Hopefully he did great on his album. He's got premier, Pete Rock and Q-tip producing for him.
