Hi. I am curious about something. I am going to fly out in December to Atlanta for a week. I am going to rent a car at the Atlanta airport.

the Atlanta airport has a new state of the art car rental center. after you pick up the car you have to walk over a glass walkway over the street to get to the garage where the car is

I recently have developed moderate agoraphobia, panic attacks and my fear of heights has worsened. I have viewed these walkways online and its tough to know if i am going to have difficulty crossing these walkways without an escort. my rental station is only on the 2nd floor so maybe it won't be so bad (there is also a 3rd floor walkway too)

someone on the Atlanta forum cautioned me that i should not ask the car rental company for an escort because they can turn around and refuse to rent me a car because they might construe it as there is "something wrong" with me

instead they think i should just ask another traveller to assist me in getting across the walkway or i should find an employee who does not work for the rental company and ask them to assist me. by "assist" i just mean someone who can walk across the walkway with me

what do you think? would a car rental company refuse to rent to me just because i had a problem with the height of the walkway?

I think it's a better idea to ask people working in the airport like security guards or police officers to help
you out too. You just need to explain your medical condition to them nicely. It's right next to the airport,
I'm sure they will help. If you just ask another stranger from the airport, they might think you are
scamming them and up to no good.

Just be glad you don't have to use bathroom like this one here. Forget about using it, my balls are kind of
sore just looking at the picture.

Would talking to somebody on your cell phone as you crossed the bridge helped?

PGAL: Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) Consolidated Rental Car Center (ConRAC)

good idea seventh but id have 2 bags with me which would make it hard to do. i might try sunglasses. god i hope this small part doesnt ruin my afternoon. maybe i should inquire about having a cop or a guard escort me BEFORE i even get up to renting the car. all theyd have to do is walk with me. i had a panic attack in manhattan mall last year. i asked the security guard to wait with me by the elevator till it came. worked well

the link shows the walkways over the street in pics 2 and 5. how do they look to you?

god, would most people (cops, guards) in the bible belt know what a panic attack/agoraphobia/vertigo is or will they freak out and think im a scammer?? at least here in NY they are familiar with those things

im not afraid to fly but i can't deal with a little walkway over a street...

Not crazy but then again heights don't bother me.....maybe buy a bluetooth device so you can hold the bags and talk at the same time?
