OG provides top Italian food for many towns in the south based on what I know and it is considered the place to go besides pizza stores for italian tastes. But again, the south is inhabitted by a lot of english/german americans. anything with red sauce will taste more italian than fishchips and beer sausages.
i have not been to an OG in NYC. I am wondering if OG in the south makes better food than those here.
Oy vey! Now that I think about it, some of my worst experiences eating "Italian" have come outside of NYC... Even getting decent pizza was a real chore.
If you feel like traveling uptown I suggest the Belmont section of the Bronx. A lot of good Italian restaurants near E 187th St and Arthur Ave. Friendly people, great food, authentic environment.
Il Cortille, DaNico, Angelo's and a real sleeper Forlini's. Forlini's is south of Canal and on baxter.
Danico's is my favorite, been going there since the late 90's (changed a lot since then, for the better). Have taken a lot of people there and they all love it.
So they're in greenwich village now? There used to be a heavy italian population there but I didn't know there still was
