Aren't the majority of the projects located south of the Bruckner?

you're right but i tend to focus on the tenement areas which look pretty bad. i don't count the projects because every neighborhood has them. i've heard the houses by randall and rosedale are the worst

Ok. Watson must be rough because I was on Westchester and Stratford and the person I was with said "the next block is bad". This person is probably the less fearful person I met. So it must be a really hellacious block for her to say that much. I look at a map and it's Watson.

I heard that the area you mentioned was GROUND ZERO during the crack era. One of the few that could contend for the title "worst neighborhood in the city".

Surprising according to the crime map 2007 it was actually pretty safe. But it goes by precinct stats so Castle Hill/Parkchester and eastern Soundview probably skewed the stats.

But check out Soundview this year.....7 murders!!!!!!! last year at this point it only had 1. Can you say dangerous?

Dennis Brown is on a distinguished road
In the early 90's I used to spend alot of time in Bronxdale Projects on Bruckner which was pretty cool for the most part but further down on Watson was the danger zone, dozens of thugs on almost every corner 24 hours around the clock. That's also where Dialo got shot up 41 times as well. It cooled down in recent time but still not a desirable place to live. On the other side of the expressway you have a cluster of projects and then some residential blocks that resemble Southeast Queens. Soundview Projects used to have alot of gunplay and Castle Hill as well further down.

When you think about it, the Bronx has way too many bad hoods. Only the northwest and east dont suck. Everything else is the same old crap.

About 16 years ago Watson had abandoned bldgs around Elder, Ward, Boynton, so that painted a picture of Soundview for me. I always thought that it was the blight from the other half of the bronx across the bronx River (hunts pt, Longwood, etc) that was related to it. Son Of Sam in his early years grew up in that area(1105 Stratford)

Yup no coincidence that the further away from Hunts Point you are, the better.

With this in mind, I am surprised that Parkchester didn't suffer the blight that afflicted East Tremont/ West Farms. It probably has to do with it being a complex and also only accepting of whites.

SuperMario...I agree there are too many "hot" neighborhoods in the Bronx...but the transition is happening. As I stated earlier, at least in Mott Haven, Melrose, Concourse, and Hunts Point, the changes that are occuring are monumental, and the vibe is completely different than it was even 5 years ago.

I know that in your area, however, it seems things are unchanged, or even getting worse. Why do you think that is?
