Just went into effect this morning. Will provide quick transportation between 3 major shopping hubs (Fordham road, 149th street/the Hub, 125 street Harlem) and should hopefully ease crowding along the bus route.

On a related note, the Bx41 now has Select Bus Service.

An improvement but the MTA needs to rebuild the Third Ave Elevated or else the more central corridors of the West Bronx will never reach previous levels of density or vibrancy.

The 3rd Avenue El doesn't need to return. Especially since it was basically reduced to a shuttle after being cut back to the Hub in 1955. Lastly, Density is of no problem in the 3rd Avenue area. In fact, I believe it's even bypassed previous densities after recovering from the events that occurred in the 70s and 80s.

Pretty sure the El was only a shuttle because the city dismantled the Manhattan portion to make way for a subway. This area was once mostly lined with rows of 5-6 story apartment buildings, built to the sidewalk. Today, it's still underutilized. A large section is zoned for manufacturing, underutilized properties like 1 story commercials, and tons of parking lots and vacant lots are scattered about.

The exact area worst effected by the loss of the Third Ave El extends from about E 156th St to Fordham Rd, between Webster Ave and Boston Rd/Crotona Park/Southern Blvd. About a half mile in either direction from Third Ave. The area I am describing above.

The entire West Bronx south of Fordham Rd was once as dense as the neighborhoods West of Webster. Definitely not as dense yet. Still a lot of underutilized land. Not to mention a lot of land area that was once solid rows of apartment buildings is now 2 unit rowhouses. Which was terrible land usage for such good mass transit options in certain areas (like Mott Haven, Longwood, Crotons Park East, West Farms).

Now the areas West of Webster are probably slightly more dense today then they were prior. Exception maybe being Highbridge due to a lot of slum clearing occurring in that area circa 1980, though much less demolishing versus areas East of Webster.

What an upsetting loss. I hope in live to see the day when this area in it's entirety revitalized and well connected. The West Bronx is so rich in architecture and urbanity.

I never understand whether the "x" makes it a $5.50 express bus (which quadruples my senior fare) or is merely an adjunct to distinguish Bronx from Brooklyn.
I've been wary since I jumped onto an express downtown by mistake and it cost me $5.50 go from Fulton to Canal.

So, is this Bx15 a regular $1.25 bus?

Yes express buses in the Bronx are BxM1, BxM2, BxM3, etc
Brookyn express buses use the B so Bronx needs the x to follow to tell them apart. BM1, BM2
Like express buses in Queens are QM1, QM2,......
Also any bus the is X followed by a number is also an express bus.

I'm curious how Bx15 Limited bus and Bx41 Select bus both run after Labor Day when public schools are open.

I waited 15 years for the Bx15 to finally make limited stops. I'm so happy and thrilled that this route has limited bus stops. Bx15 used to be one of the worst bus lines in the Bronx. Even worse is when the bus passes through 125th street in Harlem. When on the Bx15 bus going from the West side highway to 1st avenue takes anywhere about an hour.

Anyone know exactly what they are doing with the bus only lanes along Webster? For the last few weeks I've noticed the ongoing work along Webster. What is the lane to the right of the bus lane going to be for?
