Is this a good area? The rent on the place I saw listed seems low for Brooklyn (which is a good thing).

How is the Long Island Train for getting into the City?

This isn't the first thread asking about this area in the past few months. I don't even think they're trolls anymore. Broadway Junction, your time is coming now. My bet is the first bar will open up somewhere on Herkimer Street.

What is wrong with it? Shabby isn't a deal breaker, as long as it is safe.

Aren't there any bars there now? If not, why?

You are at the crossroads of eastern Bed Stuy, Brownsville and East NY, neighborhoods that are not particularly known to be quiet. Plus this is a rather isolated section, close to the industrial area at the border of Brownsville and ENY. Brooklyn posters might be more specific about safety/transportation issues.

Thank you, and yes the listing said that it was in Bed Stuy.

Usually a rent price that's "low for Brooklyn" should be a red flag. You are doing the right thing, asking on here for advice. I haven't been to that area and don't plan to. It's not known to be a good area. When I pulled up the address, it showed me a church that some neighbors were trying to save, and that church is listed as being in BROWNSVILLE. Just do a search on this forum for Brownsville and you will see why the rent is low.

Why don't you post some details on the forum in a separate thread that lists what your monthly rent budget is, and where you need to commute to in Manhattan, and maybe some posters could suggest some good, safe areas for you within your budget.
