Ok you have your opinion. You can only know what you have information about, correct. I am happy that you have put this opinion out there because I think this is the popular opinion.

So let's just leave it like that. Black people will be in the projects according to you. I will add that that is if there are any projects left.

It is very believable that many Black people from the North have property in the South, whether they own exclusively or share it. From what I hear, many Black people from the North just don't want to move to the South because they would have to adjust to a different lifestyle. For most people, it is much easier to live somewhere that they are familiar with.

I wonder if the coming real estate decline even in NYC will affect this area. Its still a bit expensive for me for a vacation home but NYC would be nice.

Love Donna Reed's comment about the rats lol In South Texas where I am now, now and then we will get a possum. Baby ones make great pets - I feed em salmon steak with a touch of lemon. Unlike rats they don't bite - don't carry disease and are quite playful.

I do miss NYC though.

I live in Central/East Harlem border area (the line is debatable). I live in a walkup but my block is about half brownstones. I always find it amusing that the media loves to tell stories about white people moving up from the UES and UWS and buying Harlem brownstones so they could get "more space." That's definitely not typical on my block. Most of the brownstones are chopped up into apartments and there are a lot of Haitian and African immigrants. The Internet and media portrayals of Harlem life in 2008 skew toward wealthier people and definitely skew toward homeowners, while in reality the vast majority of Harlemites are renters (who could never afford to live on the UWS). Look up Census data.. the blocks with majority-homeownership in Harlem are very few. NYC as a whole is mostly renters anyway and Harlem is even moreso.

As for the "nicest" parts of Harlem, FDB (aka 8th ave) from 110 to 125 is very clean and has a lot of new construction, and there's an effort to establish a restaurant row. It's a really quiet area. Also of course the Sugar Hill area and Strivers Row have for a long time been the most affluent parts of Harlem, along with the blocks immediately surrounding Marcus Garvey/Mount Morris Park. But it's subjective.. I like being closer to amenities and a lot of buses and trains, some people want to get away from the noise despite what I would find inconvenience.
