I have felt worse in the LA subway stations than I ever have in the NYC ones. Besides, we all know the NYC subway is way superior to LA's.
It was a few years ago when I took the LA subway at the recommendation of someone else who couldn't come with me. This was on a weekend and it was basically deserted unless you spoke Spanish. Even then, very few people around. The routes are not easy to figure out and the trains are very limited in the times it runs. It took me forever to get where I was going. I felt very uneasy the whole time in the LA subway system. Never ever again. That is all.
People keep complaining about the stinking garbage in the summer. I work in the boroughs but I commute about 2-3 times a week in/out of Port Authority and I always walk from the Midtown east to Midtown west and I don't smell any garbage even though I pass it (run actually because I'm afraid a rat will come out and cross my path which I've seen happen numerous times). Is it possible to become desensitized to the smell of garbage in the summer?
Well more the fact that the LA subway is the worst subway system I've ridden anywhere. I'm just being honest in my opinion and experience with it. But yes I love NY.
I miss the summers in Moscow. Most of the time it was 22-25 degrees with a nice breeze, with an occasional 30 degree weather which meant swimming in the Reka Oka. In NYC it is too damn hot during the summer
For those who complain New York's summer is too hot and humid, they should get their passport ready and travel more. New York's summer far from the hottest and most humid.
It may not be the worst but it's one of the worst.
95 with no humidity is far superior than an NYC 85 with humidity.

but there is a big price for that moderate summer....the long brutal winter.
is it expensive to buy a condo in moscow? I am thinking of having a summer place to escape when i no longer need to work to live
Just curious but does anyone on this forum live in a nabe that abuts the Atlantic (and not the Harbor)? Does it get any better there?
I was in NYC at the time, sweltering in an A/C-less apartment, checked the weather and was surprised at the difference between JFK and everywhere else that evening:
There was a strong south wind at the time. JFK was one of the coolest official weather stations not just in NYC but most of the northeast. Who needs A/C when you live next to a giant natural one? Effect is probably biggest in spring, when the ocean is cooler.
