Just wondering, I'm planning a move to the city and know ny winters get cold. I own a few frs (one faux, but nice, one real im debating on buying have been saving up, but dont want to invest if ill be an easy mark for thugs on the street or peta. I'd like to hear from a New Yorkers perspective, would these coats be ok to wear on the streets, subway, etc? Or would I be constricted to wearing just to formal events where I wouldn't be doing a lot of walking.
No. I've worn my vintage fur (a family heirloom) for the past several years and no one has said a negative word about it. Lots of compliments though.
Honestly, even if someone had a problem with it, I wouldn't let it get to me for the sole utilitarian reason: the fur is by far the warmest coat I've ever worn.

Where do you plan on living? That will determine what you will hear from other people.
I personally am against wearing fur so I would say some comment.

Based on that, you own one and you're saving for another. Whether you have 1 fur or 10 doesn't make a difference. Your question is about whether you'll be harassed for wearing fur. For the most part, I don't think so but there are from time to time, PETA or similar groups that protest, sometimes around Fashion Week.

Brooklyn (hopefully just temp) until I can get a place in SOHO.
It's the high 80s, low 90s in temperature. I would think wearing a fur now wouldn't be a good idea.
