You can try looking for a job in New Jersey, Queens or parts of Nassau which have a semblance of a commercial base. Maybe a bank branch or wealth advisor. Then you can just go to Manhattan for leisure.

Don't bring a car to NYC.

You should check out the rents in the NYC area to see if you can afford to move there. Even if you have a job, you might not make enough to afford an apt, depending on where you want to live.

There's still a risk of losing that money. The OP should stay with his parents or other family for a couple months, if possible, and try to find a good job locally.
