"Yes, people in NYC are far more friendly and welcoming than in Columbus, OH. People in NYC know how to mind their own business, which is something gossipy Columbusites seem unable to do. People in NYC are very open and friendly, they just have a real low tolerance for bull****, which is something Columbus runs on. Might be why so many folks in Columbus have trouble making friends here.

Also, when I lived in Columbus I was called a “******” by those artsy graffitti kids that the artists in Columbus support so much and also by Rednecks about 10 times a week. In NYC I’ve been called a “******” 4 times in the past 6 years.

People here are nicer. People in Columbus are mean spirited and negative, and full of ****. Glad I left." -Expat

Just a bitter rant? Or could there be some truth to it? If so, what kinds of BS might a outsider unknowingly bring to the northeast?

33 Things You Need to Know About Columbus Before You Move There

As a life long new yorka, I have been noticing people are acting nicer then they use to compared to back in the day.

Then I realized, most of the people I interact with are transplants from Columbus Ohio.

The natives here are grumpy.

Was in a Chinatown restaurant a couple of months ago, and I heard something I never thought I would hear: an Ohio State fight song ring tone.........in NYC!

Obviously, I asked the gentleman if he was a Buckeye! He confirmed it, and the conversation with him was very cool!

Nowadays NYers are quite friendly and helpful when one meets them on city streets.

Why is Ohio singled out for domestic transplants? I never understood that. I can believe that, though I haven't seen any stats on it, that it's possible Ohio contributes more domestic migrants than any other single state but it's definitely nowhere near where Ohio sends more domestic migrants than non-Ohio states do.

My partner lived in TOLEDO for 10 years. He would rather eat a bullet than move back there.

I though ny state had the highest rate of domestic outflow than any other state, also goes for michigan aswell. Problem with Ohio is that it lacks jobs especially industrial and manufacturing. I can say that there are plenty of Ohio educated Transplants roaming the streets of NY . This also goes for other midwestern states like Minnesota, Wisconsin Iowa, Indiana and Michigan.

Yea, NY has probably the highest rate. Yes, a lot of states send people (I've met more domestic transplants from California than any other state but that could be an artifact from being from California and working in industries that are strong in California). Given that domestic transplants seem to come from all over the midwest and really the entire US, it seems weird that Ohio in particular is singled out for all the vitriol.
