I'm from Trenton, NJ and we have a pretty good Irish pub here called Tir Na Nog that's a great place to grab a pint of Guinness and listen to some Wolfe Tones-where are the good places in New York?

why is IRA/Rebels at the top of your post. I thought after 9/11 America had stopped funding terrorism by the millions when they saw just what they were doing. Why would anyone in their right mind be proud to support a bloody terrorist campaign. a good bar with irish humor is the best no doubt. but let's not fund these thugs anymore. Fund those peacefully working towards a united ireland, not under sinn fein rule.

Angry Sinn Fein

Boston has some fantastic pubs, there are no longer the old school pubs in NY, mainly due to people making comments like the one above, ones that attack a group of people Mod cut: rude. The facts are Sinn Fein is a legit political party as much as finn fail, and is not a proviolence group at all. They have the right to raise funds as much as Obama!

Sinn Fein supporter, Angela McGrath

I would second that although perhaps the OP should remember that the Troubles have come to an end in Ulster.

I used to inhabit 205 street back in the early 80s. Fantastic pubs with good music, reasonable prices and good people. There were lots of Irish migrants then and it was not unusual to see people selling IRA materials or collecting donations. I always declined politely.

I was last there in 1999 and can only imagine change has come even more than it had then.

I would echo the comments on here re. IRA. Asking for details of an "IRA" bar is as offensive to many as someone asking for details of an "al Qaeda" bar.

Well I guess it all depends on where your loyalties lie! I don't find the notion of the IRA offensive, just a little outdated, but what do I know. Plenty of political parties and religions turn my stomach it seems blinkered to single out two for particular wrongdoing.

The IRA had it's time and place! It was a legitimate war with the British army and protecting catholics from them and protestants who wanted to do severe harm to catholics. The IRA made alot of mistakes though and hit wrong targets without a doubt. Thier time has come and gone and it's time for a united Ireland through peaceful means. Sinn Fein!

The IRA targeted innocents (google Nicholas Knatchbull and Paul Maxwell). They were not a legitimate army. Thank goodness Ireland is beyond that thuggery now.

If you are looking for a good Irish bar, the Irish Rover in Astoria is great.
